১. শিবিরের পাঠযসূচীতে আছে বইটা (ফুল সটপ)
২. বইটা পড়তে পড়তে আমার মনে হচছিল এটা কি উপনযাস না non-fiction? লেখার সটাইলটাই উপনযাসের মত। তবে ডোকুমেনট আর ছবি দেখে মানলাম যে এটা উপনযাস না।
৩. ফারুক গংদের সাকষাৎকারের ভিততিতে লেখক বঙগবনধু হতযাকাণডের জাসটিফাই করেছেন বলে মনে হল। শেখ খুব খারাপ, তাঁকে না মেরে কোন উপায় ছিলনা। ;)
পরথম অভযুতথান অংশে যেটা আছে সেটার একটা অংশ উললেখ না করলে নয়। বঙগবনধু নাকি পাকিসতানের সাথে সুসমপরক রাখার মৌখিক ইচছা পোষন করে এসেছিলেন। '৭২ এর জানুয়ারিতেই লেখককে একথা উনি বলেছিলেন।

'Nobody understands what I do for my country', an apparently original quote by the guy who was called 'The ONE friend of Bangladesh', the undisputed leader of the Bangladeshis after the country became independent in 1971, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, sort of sums up the mood of the whole book. কিছুদিন আগে কুয়োরাতে বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাস নিয়ে নিরপেকষ তিন বইয়ের তালিকাতে বইটার নাম দেখেছিলাম।
বইটা হাতে পাওয়ার পর আরেকজন জানালো বইটাতে অনেক বিতরকিত তথয দেওয়া আছে যা সবাধীনতা বিরোধী শকতিরা উপযুকত রেফরেনস হিসেবে বযবহার করছে / বযবহারের সুযোগ করে দেওয়া হয়েছে ।
এখন , বইটা পড়ার সময় খুব বেশী চেষটা করেছি দুই বিপরীত মনতবয থেকে মসতিষকের বিশলেষণী অংশকে দূরে রাখতে । পুরোপুরি সমভব নয় । কারন মসতিষক মাতরই কিছু বায়াস কাজ করবে । পুরোপুরি নিরপেকষ দৃষটিভঙগী সবরগের পূরণ সুখ- শানতির ধারনার মতই অবাসতব ।

আমি সাধারণত নন-ফিকশন পড়ি না। তবে বইটার পরথম অধযায় পড়ে যে ধাককা খেয়েছি সেই ধাককা আমাকে শেষ পরযনত নিয়ে যাচছে। দেশের রাজনৈতিক ইতিহাসের সবথেকে পরভাবশালী দুজন বযকতি জাতির জনক বঙগবনধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান এবং শহীদ পরেসিডেনট জিয়াউর রহমান সমপরকে এভাবে সরাসরি সমালোচনা পাঠকদের বিসমিত করতে বাধয।

বিখযাত বরিটিশ সাংবাদিক আযনথনী মযাসকারেণহাস বাংলাদেশের মুকতিযুদধকালীন সময়কাল এবং এর পুরববরতী সময়কাল নিয়ে 'দয রেইপ অব বাংলাদেশ' লিখেন।

দেশ সবাধীন হওয়ার কয়েক মাস পর থেকেই বঙগবনধুর জনপরিয়তা কমতে থাকে। কমতে কমতে ৭৫ এ তা ভয়াবহ আকার ধারণ করে কিনতু তাকে মারাই কি একমাতর রাসতা ছিল? এ বইয়ে তাঁর হতযাকে মোটামুটি জাসটিফাই ই করা হয়েছে ( সবাধীনতা পরবরতী ঘটনাবলীর জনয) , তাও আবার তাঁর হতযার মাসটারমাইনড মেজর ফারুক আর মেজর রশিদের ইনটারভিউ এর ওপর বেজ করে ( লেখক নিজেই মেজরদের ইনটারভিউ নিয়েছিলেন)।

Truth is far gripping, stranger, and horrifying than fiction. Such brilliant writing, holding breath-stopping suspense till the end. The book focuses on the wrongs as the author himself asserted. But it paints more than that. Anybody who is trying to understand the history of Bangladesh, our hideous, shameless and parasitic politics, corruption cycles, and why we are still in the state we are now, should give this book a definite read.

I read different versions of history of 1975 to 1981,but this non-fiction by Anthony Mascarenhas seems much more legit. Even though the period was dark but Nov'75 has always been my favorite area in history of Bangladesh. Coup, re-coup; that was certainly a period of turmoil. I may sound a little heartless but this book is a 'real-life thriller'. This is a perfect example of 'truth is stranger than fiction'. No thriller writer in the whole world can plot this out what our military personnel did.
This is a historically insightful book with some particularly fascinating anecdotes. It talks in great detail about the background of the key men involved in bringing about the violent coups and counter-coups in that tumultuous period after independence, and their misplaced nationalism and avarice for power. However, the work seems to be quite opinionated at times, and this somewhat discredits an ostensibly neutral view on the incidents in other areas of the book. Overall, an enjoyable read.
